BTexact has a heritage of excellence in research and technological
development, but has historically provided services to BT Lines of Business
on a cost recovery basis. As part of an increasing commercial focus, BTexact
needed to reposition itself in the market as a high quality provider of advanced
technology solutions. The resource required to support this organisation had
to be capable of understanding and acting on technically complex messages
and establishing competitive positioning against specialist organisations
operating in the field of advanced communications technology.

During the initial phase of business transformation, BTexact
line management were fully occupied developing and implementing existing plans.
The transformation project itself identified new areas that required additional
resource as well as requiring immediate input into areas such as defining
broad commercial messages and realigning the PR activity. By engaging the
Virtual Marketing Company, BTexact was able to continue day-to-day activity
while developing a new, commercially aligned programme in parallel.

to operate with existing agencies and suppliers at BTexact. In this way, the
input provided was objective and linked to the overall strategic requirements.
The consultants who worked on the project had extensive experience in Telecommunications
in addition to a broad background in marketing communications for service
organisations. They were able to assist in developing professional methodologies
for the marketing department and to provide an audit of existing practice.
A key deliverable was an action oriented marketing planning tool that enabled
BTexact people to produce customer focused marketing plans in a consistent
and measurable format to drive sales during this critical period of commercialisation.
